Donating Oranges is our story.
The names have been changed to protect the privacy of our children.
Donating Oranges is a ‘blooker’, which means it’s a blog, a book and a Twitter feed in one. Blooker is a modern melding of those three words.
The book is available to download. The blog continues.
The main character is Sarah Jane Washington, who prefers to be called Esser. The origins of her nickname and the title, Donating Oranges, are revealed in the book.
Esser is an American, who married an Australian named Cliff. They live together in Australia with their three boys. Cliff was diagnosed with Mesothelioma* on December 6, 2011 at the age of 48.
The story was written as a series of journal entries made by Esser.
Donating Oranges is about hunting for good things in tough times.
*Mesothelioma is terminal cancer most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos twenty to fifty years prior to diagnosis and occuring in the protective lining around some of the body’s internal organs, i.e. heart and lungs.
Donating Oranges is dedicated to the families, friends and communities who support others. If you are one of those people, in any way, then Donating Oranges is a love letter of gratitude to you.
Your kind acts, no matter how great or small, affect everything.
